John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest living man, has passed away at the age of 112, as confirmed by Guinness World Records. Born in Liverpool, England, on August 26, 1912, Tinniswood lived a remarkable life, witnessing over a century of history, and was a lifelong fan of Liverpool FC, having been born just 20 years after the club’s founding.

He passed away on Monday, November 25, at a care home in Southport. In a statement, his family said, “His last day was surrounded by music and love. John always liked to say thank you, so on his behalf, thanks to all those who cared for him over the years, including his carers at the Hollies Care Home, his GPs, district nurses, occupational therapist, and other NHS staff.”

Tinniswood became the world’s oldest man in April 2024 at the age of 111, following the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez from Venezuela. His longevity captured global attention, and Tinniswood’s advice for maintaining good health was to practice moderation in all things. “If you drink too much, or eat too much, or walk too much, if you do too much of anything, you’re going to suffer eventually,” he shared.

Asked about the secret to his remarkable longevity, Tinniswood humbly attributed it to “just luck.” He explained, “I can’t think of any special secrets I have. I was quite active as a youngster, did a lot of walking, but I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. I’m no different to anyone, I just take it in my stride.”

Tinniswood’s love story began when he met his wife, Blodwen, at a dance in Liverpool. They were together for 44 years before Blodwen’s death in 1986. He is survived by his daughter, Susan, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and is remembered as the fourth-oldest British man in recorded history.

His family described him as intelligent, decisive, brave, calm in any crisis, talented at maths, and a great conversationalist. “John had many fine qualities,” they added. “His kindness and enthusiasm for life were an inspiration to the care home staff and his fellow residents.”

John Tinniswood’s extraordinary life serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of kindness, curiosity, and love.
