A couple narrowly escaped death in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, when a container fell on their car while they were parked on Thursday, November 28, 2024. The incident occurred at the Ogbomoso High School area, leaving the couple shaken but thankfully unharmed.
According to reports from Ogbomoso Insight, the couple had just parked their vehicle and gotten out to purchase items when the container fell from a trailer. Eyewitnesses recounted that the timing of the incident was remarkably close to when the couple had exited their car.
“It was a narrow escape,” one eyewitness stated. “The couple had just parked their car and were buying some items at the side of the metal scrap yard when the trailer’s large container fell on the vehicle. Thank God no one was in the car.”
Accident Caused by Driver Avoiding Collision with Distracted Bus Driver
It was later revealed that the trailer, with registration number Nasarawa JZ 101 ZA, was attempting to avoid a head-on collision with a bus traveling in the opposite direction. The bus driver, according to witnesses, was distracted by his mobile phone and lost focus, which led to the near-collision.
As the trailer driver swerved to avoid hitting the bus, the vehicle slipped into a ditch and crashed down on the parked car.
The couple’s quick actions in exiting the car moments before the incident likely saved their lives, as the container landed directly on the vehicle. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, and the distracted bus driver is expected to face scrutiny for contributing to the dangerous situation.
