The United Kingdom has officially launched a new Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Ikeja, Lagos, in partnership with VFS Global. This new centre is now the largest UK Visa Application Centre in Africa, further enhancing the UK’s visa processing capabilities for Nigerian nationals.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the British Deputy High Commission confirmed the opening, which follows the establishment of additional VACs in Abuja and Victoria Island, Lagos State. Nigerians wishing to travel to the UK can now book appointments and submit their visa applications at the new Ikeja centre.
New Visa Application Centre Marks a Milestone for UK and VFS Global Partnership
During the launch, British Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Jonny Baxter highlighted the importance of Nigeria as a key partner for the UK. He expressed hope that the new VAC would improve the visa application experience for Nigerians.
“We hope that VFS delivers ever-improving services for those applying for visas to the UK,” said Baxter.
Marc Owen, Director of Visa, Status, and Information Services at UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), described the Ikeja VAC as an exciting milestone for both UKVI and VFS Global. He noted that, in the year leading up to June 2024, over 225,000 UK visas were processed for Nigerian nationals across various categories.
“This new partnership demonstrates our continued commitment to ensuring our visa services are accessible, efficient, and meet the needs of all applicants,” Owen stated.
Enhanced Services for UK Visa Applicants
VFS Global, which has been in partnership with UKVI since 2003, is committed to offering Nigerian travellers best-in-class visa services. Mr. Alok Singhal, Head of Sub-Saharan Africa for VFS Global, shared his excitement about the new centre and the opportunities it brings for Nigerians applying for UK visas.
With the new Ikeja centre, UK visa customers in Nigeria can enjoy a range of optional services designed to enhance their comfort and convenience. These services include document upload assistance, prime time for application submission outside of regular business hours, SMS notifications, document checking, and courier return services once a decision has been made.
Additionally, customers in Abuja can now opt for an on-demand mobile visa service, allowing them to submit their UK visa applications from the comfort of their homes or offices, further streamlining the process.
Ongoing Commitment to Accessible Visa Services
The opening of the Ikeja Visa Application Centre reflects the UK’s ongoing commitment to making its visa services more accessible and efficient for Nigerian applicants. With more than 225,000 UK visas processed annually, the expansion of VACs in Nigeria is expected to significantly improve the experience for travellers seeking to visit the UK.
