The Federal Government has introduced a free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus service in Abuja, aimed at alleviating transportation costs for residents in the capital city.
The service officially began operations on December 2, 2024, as confirmed in a video shared by the Presidential CNG Initiative on its X (formerly Twitter) page. These buses are designed to operate on popular routes, including those from suburban areas like Mararaba to Eagle Square and the Berger bus stop.
Free Rides for 40 Days
As part of the initiative, the buses will offer free rides for the next 40 days, providing significant relief for commuters. Videos and testimonials from beneficiaries highlight the program’s positive reception.
Positive Feedback from Commuters
Several passengers expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Fatima, a commuter who used the free service, shared her excitement:
“I just boarded a CNG bus going to Mararaba, and we were asked not to pay. I didn’t pay. I hope it will continue for long. I like it very much; I know this is the beginning of good things for Nigerians.”
Another commuter, Blessing, added:
“If they’re doing like this, we’ll be happy. After this, they should consider reducing transportation costs permanently.”
A Sustainable Solution for Rising Transportation Costs
This initiative reflects the government’s effort to introduce sustainable and affordable transportation options for Nigerians. The use of CNG-powered buses aligns with the country’s broader goals of promoting cleaner energy and reducing dependence on traditional fuels.
As the program progresses, it offers hope for further measures to alleviate transportation challenges for citizens.
