Tension in Kano: Armed Security Operatives Take Over Emir’s Palace

In a surprising development, armed security operatives have taken control of the main palace of the Kano Emir at Kofar Kudu in the early hours of Friday. The action has caused significant disruption, restricting movement in and out of the palace, leaving traditional rulers and titleholders stranded.

This heightened security coincides with plans for Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to accompany Alhaji Munir Sanusi, the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, to his district posting in Bichi. Bichi, one of the four emirates created during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was dissolved by the current administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Reports also indicate that the Bichi Emir’s palace has been placed under tight security, with armed policemen stationed in the area. However, the specific reasons for the increased security presence remain unclear.

Attempts to reach the Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, for a statement have been unsuccessful, as his phone was unreachable. The lack of official communication has fueled speculation about the motives behind this security operation.

The unexpected takeover has disrupted activities around the palace and caused concern among residents and observers. Many are left questioning the political and administrative implications of the move.

As the situation unfolds, further updates are awaited to clarify the reasons behind this unusual security measure and its potential impact on Kano’s traditional and political landscape.
