Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 election, has firmly denied recent rumors of his arrest. In a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, Obi labeled the circulating news as “entirely false” and confirmed his presence at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Obi expressed concern over the persistence of such unfounded claims, recalling a similar incident in September of the previous year when false reports alleged that the Department of State Services had invaded his home while he was abroad in Rwanda. He emphasized that these recurring fabrications seem to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

He urged Nigerians not to be distracted by these baseless rumors and to remain focused on addressing the critical challenges facing the nation. Obi also expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and support, reaffirming his commitment to the pursuit of a better Nigeria.

This clarification comes amid heightened political tensions, with recent reports of threats and inflammatory remarks involving various political figures. Obi’s prompt response aims to dispel any misinformation and maintain public trust in his ongoing political engagements.
