In response to Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent warning about bandits migrating from the North-West to Oyo State, security agencies in the South-West have intensified their efforts to counter this threat. The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone XI, Patrick Edung, confirmed that measures such as increased patrols, deployment of special squads, enhanced intelligence gathering, and collaboration with other security agencies are underway to safeguard the region.
Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has expressed his readiness to collaborate with security forces to eliminate the bandit menace. This sentiment is echoed by the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, which has called on South-West governors to bolster their security measures in light of the recent developments.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, assured the public that the police are on high alert and prepared to address any threats to the state’s peace and security. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation and the provision of timely information to aid in crime-fighting efforts.
These concerted actions underscore the commitment of both security agencies and community leaders to address the evolving security challenges in the South-West region. The collaboration between official forces and local stakeholders aims to ensure the safety and well-being of residents amid concerns of bandit infiltration.
