In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, the Nasarawa State Police Command apprehended gospel singer Timilehin Ajayi on Sunday in Orozo, a border town between the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Nasarawa State. Ajayi stands accused of the gruesome murder and dismemberment of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Salome Enejo, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Abuja.
The arrest unfolded under dramatic circumstances. Churchgoers became suspicious when they observed Ajayi near a river adjacent to their place of worship, acting erratically and discarding a black nylon bag into the water. Upon retrieval, the bag was found to contain the severed head of Enejo. The congregation detained Ajayi and promptly handed him over to the authorities.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel confirmed the arrest, noting that officers intervened just in time to prevent a mob from exacting vigilante justice on the suspect. A subsequent search of Ajayi’s residence led to the discovery of two sacks containing the dismembered remains of the young woman. Enejo’s family has since been notified and has identified her remains.
Ajayi, who sustained injuries during his apprehension, is currently receiving medical treatment under police custody. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the case, exploring the possibility of ritualistic motives behind the heinous act.
This tragic event has cast a pall over the community, raising concerns about safety and the potential for ritualistic crimes. The NYSC community, in particular, is mourning the loss of one of its members under such brutal circumstances.
The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation and are urging citizens to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to prevent such atrocities in the future.
