Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has criticized the Nigerian police for requiring him to provide a Level 17 officer as a surety for his bail. He described this demand as an insult and an abuse of power.

Sowore, who was detained after referring to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun as an “Illegal IGP,” expressed his dismay at the bail conditions set by the police. He argued that asking for such a high-ranking civil servant to stand as surety is unreasonable, especially given his role as an employer and international media publisher.

He emphasized his long-standing commitment to fighting corruption and stated that he would not comply with what he sees as corrupt and illegal bail conditions. Sowore also highlighted the irony of being asked to provide a surety from a civil servant who may not have been employed during his early activism in 1992.

The activist remains firm in his stance against corruption and vows to continue his fight for justice and equality in Nigeria.
