The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that corps members will receive an increased monthly allowance of ₦77,000 beginning in February 2025. Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General, shared this update with the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State.
General Ahmed confirmed that the raise has been included in the 2025 Federal Government budget and will be implemented once the budget is approved. He emphasized the government’s dedication to the welfare and security of corps members, urging them to serve diligently in return. He also assured that corps members would not be assigned to areas with security concerns, stating, “We will not send our corps members to any areas with security challenges. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve.”
This development follows previous announcements regarding the allowance increase. In September 2024, the Federal Government approved the increment from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024. However, delays in funding had postponed the implementation.
Corps members had previously expressed concerns over the delay in receiving the increased allowance. With this recent announcement, it is anticipated that the new allowance will be disbursed starting in February 2025, following the budget’s passage.
