Soldier Killed, Others Injured as Driver Hits Troops in Lagos

A soldier lost his life, and several others were injured when a driver crashed into troops during a routine march near Myoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State, on Friday. The Nigerian Army confirmed the incident in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division.

The statement noted that the deceased soldier’s body has been taken to the mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, involving the 81 Division Military Police and other security agencies.

Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. He urged the public to remain calm as the investigation proceeds.

Despite this tragic event, the 81 Division remains committed to its training and readiness to fulfill its duties. The Division emphasized that this loss will not deter its dedication to protecting lives and property within its operational area, in line with its constitutional mandate.
