On Saturday, February 15, 2025, the Kwara State Police Command arrested a 29-year-old Islamic teacher, Abdulrahman Bello, for allegedly killing a 25-year-old final student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Yetunde Lawali. The two reportedly met on Facebook which led to the tragic encounter.
Details of the incident
According to police reports, Bello Lawali was summoned to his residence in Ganmo area of Ilorin on February 10, 2025. Lawali was last seen after attending a naming ceremony during which he received a phone call from The cleric. His father, Ibrahim A. Laval, concerned over his sudden disappearance, reported that he went missing at the Oja-Oba police station on February 11.
Investigation and arrest
The police have launched an investigation following Lawal’s phone number that led them to Bello’s residence at Offa garage, Ilorin. Initially, Bello denied any connection to Lawal’s disappearance. However, upon searching his house, authorities discovered lowal’s body parts hidden in a bowl. Confronting with this evidence, Bello insisted that Lawal died during his visit from an asthma attack.

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Traditional Governors Council of Kwara State, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has expressed deep grief over the incident. He condemned the act as “the most unfortunate, a step on the Ilorin culture and an act of regrettable shame”.
