The rise in cases of unsuspecting individuals consuming marijuana-laced foods has sparked concern among health officials and law enforcement. This disturbing trend, often carried out as a prank or for profit, poses serious health risks, especially to children and unsuspecting adults.

In Nigeria, authorities have arrested individuals selling food and drinks infused with cannabis. One such case involved a woman in Abuja who was caught selling marijuana-laced cookies and a popular local drink known as Zobo. Many consumers, unaware of the contents, suffered adverse reactions, including dizziness, confusion, and vomiting.

Similar incidents have been reported globally. In the United States, a pizza shop unknowingly served pies made with THC-infused oil, causing dozens of customers to fall ill. Some experienced rapid heartbeats and extreme drowsiness, while others reported hallucinations. Emergency services were called to assist affected individuals, highlighting the dangers of unintentional marijuana consumption.

Health experts warn that accidental consumption of THC can have severe effects, particularly for children and those with underlying health conditions. Symptoms such as nausea, paranoia, and heart irregularities are common, and in extreme cases, hospitalization is required. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported a sharp increase in cases of children exposed to marijuana edibles, emphasizing the need for stronger safety measures.

To prevent further incidents, public health authorities recommend increased awareness about THC-laced products. Proper labeling and secure storage of marijuana-infused foods can help reduce the risk of accidental ingestion. Additionally, individuals should remain cautious when accepting food from unfamiliar sources.

The growing cases of marijuana-laced food incidents serve as a wake-up call for governments and communities to address the issue seriously. Without proper action, more lives will be put at risk by this dangerous and reckless practice.
