An adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has indicated that Iran may consider developing nuclear weapons if the United States or its allies initiate an attack. This statement follows heightened tensions after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened military action against Iran unless it agrees to a new nuclear deal.
Ali Larijani, the adviser, emphasized that while Iran is not currently seeking nuclear weapons, any aggressive actions could compel the nation to reconsider its stance. He stated that Iran would have no choice but to defend itself in such a scenario.
Ayatollah Khamenei has previously warned of a strong counterattack if the U.S. follows through on its threats. He highlighted that any hostile action would be met with a decisive response.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned President Trump’s remarks, labeling them as a shocking affront to international peace and security. The ministry summoned the Swiss charge d’affaires, representing U.S. interests in Iran, to express Tehran’s protest.
General Amirali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ aerospace force, pointed out the presence of numerous U.S. bases and troops in the region. He cautioned that those in vulnerable positions should avoid escalating tensions.
These developments underscore the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, raising concerns about regional stability and the potential for conflict.
