The Lagos State Police Command has placed its officers on alert ahead of a planned nationwide protest set for April 7. The protest is being organized by civil society groups calling attention to the rising cost of living and what they describe as growing limits on free speech.

Police sources say intelligence reports suggest the protest could draw large crowds in major cities, including Lagos. Officers have been instructed to stay vigilant and maintain public order before, during, and after the demonstration.

Key areas expected to be used as gathering points include Gani Fawehinmi Park, the National Stadium, Labour House in Yaba, and several busy roundabouts and underbridges. Security will be tightened in and around these locations.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered that officers secure important buildings and critical infrastructure across the state. Authorities are concerned that criminals could use the protest as cover to cause violence or damage property.

While the protest is expected to be peaceful, the police say they will not tolerate any acts of violence or destruction. They’ve warned that anyone caught trying to hijack the protest for unlawful purposes will be arrested.

Residents have been urged to stay calm and continue with their daily activities. The police have promised to protect lives and property and to make sure that law-abiding citizens can move freely throughout the day.
