In the early hours of Monday, Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military base in Izge village, located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack started around 1:00 a.m. when the insurgents launched rocket-propelled grenades at the platoon base of troops under Operation Hadin Kai. A heavy gun battle followed and lasted for several hours.

During the clash, two soldiers—a Captain and a Corporal—lost their lives. Despite the loss, troops, supported by local hunters and residents, pushed back the attackers. Several terrorists were killed, and the rest escaped with the bodies of their dead.

This is not the first time troops have faced such attacks. Just two weeks earlier, Boko Haram fighters launched similar assaults on military posts in Wajirko, Damboa Local Government Area, and Wulgo village in Gamboru Ngala. Those attacks also resulted in casualties.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, expressed deep concern over the continued violence in his area. He called on the federal government to act quickly by using more advanced tools like drones to support military efforts and stop the over-decade-long crisis.

Izge is about 20 kilometers southwest of Gwoza town and lies near the Sambisa Forest. Residents of the village have shown courage in the face of danger. Many helped the military defend their community during the attack.

Senator Ndume praised the bravery of Izge residents. He urged the government to Train, Equip, Arm, and Motivate the armed forces and other security agencies. According to him, this is key to fighting terrorism, kidnapping, and other crimes affecting parts of the North East, North West, and the country as a whole.
