The Presidency has denied reports claiming that Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been removed from office.
In a post shared on social media, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, described the news as false and urged Nigerians to ignore it. He called the report “fake news” and said there is no truth to the claim.
This statement came after rumors began to spread suggesting the INEC boss had been sacked. The Presidency acted quickly to clear the air and prevent confusion among citizens.
Professor Yakubu continues to serve as the head of INEC. He is responsible for overseeing elections and guiding Nigeria’s electoral process.
The Presidency advised the public to rely only on official sources for information about government decisions and appointments. It also warned against spreading false news that could mislead or stir unnecessary tension.
