The FBI has arrested 22 Nigerian nationals accused of running a sextortion network that targeted teenage boys across the United States. The scheme has been linked to more than 20 reported teen suicides, highlighting the devastating effects of online exploitation.

Investigators revealed that the suspects posed as young women on social media platforms to lure teenage boys into sharing explicit images. After obtaining the images, the victims were blackmailed with threats that their pictures would be made public unless they paid money. Many victims, overwhelmed by fear and shame, saw no way out and tragically ended their lives.

This case recalls a similar incident involving Nigerian brothers Samuel and Samson Ogoshi, who were previously extradited to the United States and sentenced to more than 17 years in prison. They were found guilty of running a sextortion scheme that led to the death of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay in Michigan. That case drew national attention to the growing threat of online sexual blackmail targeting minors.

The FBI has stressed the urgent need for parents and guardians to maintain open lines of communication with their children about online dangers. They urge families to educate young people about the risks of sharing personal images and to create safe spaces where victims feel comfortable seeking help.

Authorities continue to encourage anyone who suspects they or someone they know is a victim of sextortion to come forward immediately. This latest crackdown sends a strong message that law enforcement is intensifying efforts to track and prosecute those who prey on vulnerable teenagers online.
