A Nigerian man facing a rape charge in the United Kingdom has also been charged with illegal working, recent court reports have exposed.

The suspect, now under police arrest, allegedly carried out the assault in a hotel room after picking up his victim on a night out. The woman later reported the incident and the suspect was arrested after investigations.

During the court hearing, it was found that the man was not legally working in the UK at the time of the offense. The immigration officers confirmed that he did not have the required documents to work or stay in the UK.

Prosecutors explained that the man had utilized a fictitious identity to gain employment and had been present in the UK for some time without valid documents. He is thought to have worked under the assumed identity, making it harder for police to track his movements before his arrest.

The court also heard the testimony of the victim, where she described how the man allegedly attacked her. The suspect was remanded in custody pending trial by the judge, who cited the severity of the case and the likelihood of flight due to his immigration status.

The case has reignited arguments surrounding illegal migration, false documentation, and how some offenders avoid detection by working using false identities.

UK authorities say they are now investigating the suspect’s whole immigration history, and deportation is an option if he is convicted.

The suspect will appear in court again in the coming weeks when a trial date is set.
