NUT Says Computer-Based Exams Won’t Stop Exam Cheating

It is the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) claims that the switch to tests that are computer-based (CBT) alone won’t end cheating in exams. They claim that the real issues go deeper and are a part of various key issues.

In the first place, NUT warns that cheating can occur outside of the examination hall. Students post answers on messages or on social media. Even with the latest the latest technology the cheating will not stop.

Additionally, many test centers have a problem with power supply reliability and a stable internet. This could lead to computer failures. When computers fail students are in panic. This pressure could cause students to cheat if the system is not working.

Third, insufficient facilities and inadequate supervision allow cheating to be more easy. If the space isn’t safe and supervised, students will have opportunities to commit a crime. For instance, phones and notes are still able to be able to pass physical tests.

NUT believes that the focus should not be limited to technology. Schools must address deficiencies in facilities and training. Teachers, administrators and parents need to collaborate to create strong exam systems.

In their own words: “Technology alone is not the cure.” They insist on officials to address core issues such as poor power and oversight, and lenient penalties for those who violate the law.

They also recommend better education for all employees, better test rules, and stronger punishments for cheating. Only a complete set of measures can effectively combat the scourge of malpractice.

The bottom the bottom line While CBT could aid in reducing cheating, it’s not the entire solution. NUT suggests that schools enhance facilities, educate personnel, enforce rules and engage more stakeholders when cheating is to be stopped.
