On January 10, 2025, President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced in the New York hush money case. Judge Juan Merchan issued an unconditional discharge, meaning Trump received no jail time, fines, or probation, though the felony conviction remains on record.

This sentencing follows Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign. Despite the conviction, Trump is set to assume the presidency on January 20, 2025.

Trump has criticized the case as a “political witch hunt” and plans to appeal the conviction.
