Nigerian Business Owners in South Africa Accuse Officials of Illegal Raid, Looting

Nigerian business owners in Pretoria, South Africa, have reported an illegal raid on their shops. The incident happened on January 17, 2025, at the Navy House, Fatima Building in Pretoria Central. The raid was part of the “Reclaim Our City” initiative. Officials involved included the Department of Home Affairs, South African Police Service, Metro Police, City of Tshwane authorities, and Gauteng traffic officers.

During the operation, officials allegedly seized valuable items. Confiscated goods included Brazilian hair extensions, electronics like TVs and microwaves, professional hair salon equipment, cash, and drinks from fridges. Additionally, they reportedly destroyed surveillance systems, removing CCTV cameras and recording equipment. Significant damage was also done to the building’s ceilings during the removal of these devices.

The affected Nigerian business owners have filed a formal complaint with the South African Police Service at Pretoria Central Station. The case is documented under reference number CAS 385/1/2025. An investigation into the alleged misconduct by government officials is now underway.
