Pope Francis, aged 88, is in critical condition following a severe respiratory crisis. The Vatican reported that on Saturday, he experienced a prolonged asthmatic episode, necessitating high-flow oxygen therapy and blood transfusions due to a low platelet count. Despite his critical state, the Pope remained alert, spending the day seated in a chair. His health had been gradually improving after being hospitalized for pneumonia on February 14, but the recent respiratory crisis has raised concerns about his recovery. The Pope’s medical history includes chronic lung issues, partly due to a previous lung surgery, making him more susceptible to respiratory infections. As a result of his condition, all public engagements have been suspended, and the Vatican has requested prayers for his health.
