In a recent interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai disclosed that President Bola Tinubu, not the National Assembly, was responsible for his exclusion from the ministerial list. El-Rufai refuted claims that the Senate rejected his nomination over security concerns, stating, “The National Assembly had nothing to do with it; the president didn’t want me in his cabinet.”

As a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), El-Rufai expressed concerns about the party’s current operations. He noted that since President Tinubu assumed office, the party’s organs have been inactive, and the progressive ideals that once defined the APC are no longer pursued with vigor.

El-Rufai recounted that after leaving office, President Tinubu publicly sought his support, leading to two months of negotiations. They eventually agreed on a ministerial nomination with specific conditions. However, the president later changed his mind, leading to El-Rufai’s exclusion from the cabinet. He emphasized that the National Assembly was not involved in this decision.

Addressing the alleged security concerns cited for his rejection, El-Rufai challenged the validity of such claims, questioning the existence of any report against him. He pointed out that individuals with fewer qualifications and less experience were approved because of the president’s intervention. El-Rufai acknowledged that President Tinubu is entitled to change his mind regarding cabinet appointments.

This development sheds light on the internal dynamics of the APC and raises questions about the decision-making processes concerning ministerial appointments within the current administration.
