Gunmen Kill Miyetti Allah Chairman in Kwara, Police Promise Justice

    Gunmen have killed Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kwara State. The attackers ambushed him in front of his home in Oke Ose, Ilorin East Local Government Area, on Saturday night, March 9, 2025.

    According to eyewitnesses, Sakaina was returning home when the gunmen struck. They shot him multiple times before fleeing. Residents rushed to the scene, but he died before help could arrive.

    The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the attack. Officers recovered bullet shells and have launched a full investigation. Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya vowed to track down those responsible. He urged anyone with useful information to come forward.

    Sakaina was a well-known figure among cattle breeders in the state. He previously served as a special assistant to the Moro Local Government chairman. Community leaders have condemned the killing and called for better security.

    The Miyetti Allah group expressed deep sorrow over his death. In a statement, they urged authorities to find the killers and ensure justice. They also asked the state government to support his family, especially his children.

    Sakaina was buried on Sunday in Ilorin. Security agencies are now under pressure to solve the case and prevent further attacks on community leaders.
