Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, has revealed that he was offered a N5 billion bribe. The money was meant to make him support an effort to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.

He made this known during a TV interview. He explained that those behind the offer wanted him to lead the impeachment. According to him, the plan failed because he refused to take the money.

Edison said he has proof of the bribe attempt. He claims the evidence is stored on his phone. He did not mention who made the offer, but he pointed fingers at people loyal to a past leader of the state.

Before becoming Chief of Staff, Edison served as a lawmaker. He represented Ahoada East Constituency II and was also the House Leader. He resigned from that role in late 2023 to support the governor.

Political troubles in the state began when lawmakers started moves to impeach Governor Fubara. They accused him of changing the state’s budget and taking steps without their approval. This led to a split in the state assembly. Some lawmakers backed the governor, while others followed his political rival.

Despite the pressure, Edison stood with the governor. He said the bribe was meant to make him betray that loyalty. He said the money came with a promise of a bigger political reward.

The crisis has drawn attention across the country. There have been calls for peace and talks between the two sides. For now, the political fight continues.

Edison’s claim has added a fresh twist to the ongoing drama. Many are now asking how far some politicians are willing to go just to hold power.
