President Bola Tinubu has assured that Nigeria will not succumb to internal or external pressures aimed at destabilizing its security. During a recent visit to Katsina State, he reaffirmed the country’s resilience against fear, terror, and betrayal.

“To our adversaries who seek to destabilize our nation—whichever they might be, either our internal collaborators or foreign-influenced agents-let our message be clear: Nigeria will not surrender. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery,” Tinubu stated.

Tinubu described the armed forces as “silent guardians of our democracy”, saying he is “deeply humbled” by their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to peace, security, and sovereignty of the nation.

“You are the shield of Nigeria, the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror. Every inch of ground you hold, every terrorist you neutralise, and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children,” he added.

Tinubu applauded the sacrifices of the men and women of the force, saying, “Your resilience in the face of danger inspires the entire nation. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed.

“You have left behind your families and the comforts of civilian life to wear the uniform of honour and duty. You face danger not for wealth or recognition, but for the love of our dear country.

This is in response to increased violence in states like Benue and Plateau, where recent attacks have cost scores of lives and displaced thousands. There was an abrupt outbreak of rural violence in the north of Nigeria in April 2025, resulting in over 150 deaths and thousands displaced, primarily in Benue and Plateau states. The violence, founded on centuries-old struggles between sedentary Christian farmers and nomadic Muslim herders over land and resources, has been fueled by climate change and an unprecedented arms deluge.

To check these threats, Tinubu directed a comprehensive overhaul of national security policies, aiming to improve the country’s defense mechanisms.

The President’s firm stance confirms Nigeria’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and guard its citizens against the current security threats.
