Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has committed ₦15 billion to transform the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Kano State, into a world-class institution.
The announcement was made during the university’s 5th convocation ceremony, where Dangote outlined a five-year development plan. The project includes building modern student hostels, lecture halls, a fully equipped computer lab with high-speed internet, and a solar power plant to enhance stable energy on campus. A new Senate building is also part of the plan.
Dangote said his vision is to create a learning environment that competes with top institutions worldwide. He added that top-performing engineering graduates will be offered post-NYSC placements and jobs within the Dangote Group, creating a direct link between education and industry.
Previously, Dangote settled a ₦100 million electricity debt for the school and pledged to assist in providing alternative energy solutions to improve infrastructure on campus.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai revealed that the university was dealing with a ₦3 billion debt burden when he assumed office. He confirmed that the Kano State Government has already cleared over ₦2 billion of that amount.
Governor Abba Yusuf also pledged additional support. He announced plans to construct internal road networks and drainage systems within the university to boost accessibility and safety for students and staff.
All these efforts, according to school officials and stakeholders, are aimed at repositioning ADUSTECH as a hub for innovation and practical learning in Nigeria and beyond.
Dangote’s investment is expected to improve academic performance, attract global partnerships, and provide students with better learning and living conditions. Education leaders say this type of intervention could set an example for other private sector players to support public universities.
