Italian giants Napoli have shown a strong interest in the acquisition of Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, but Atalanta has placed a €50 million price tag on Super Eagles winger Lookman.
Lookman has impressed this season with great performances in Serie A and in European competition, who is being pursued by a string of leading clubs. Napoli are keen to sign him as part of an attempt to rebuild their frontline, especially with Victor Osimhen likely to leave in the summer.
Club insiders say Lookman’s speed, dribbling, and finishing make him a perfect fit for Napoli’s counter-attacking style. The 26-year-old has scored key goals this season and remains one of Atalanta’s top performers.
Lookman led Nigeria into AFCON 2023’s final this year, where he played a vital role and ended up being one of the team’s leading scorers. His international achievement escalated his market value and brought him into more limelight in Europe.
Atalanta will listen but are not keen on selling. They see Lookman as one of their long-term players unless an agreement of their requirements is met. Napoli is, however, considering player trades or staged payment arrangements to finalize the move.
