Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has revealed that he may not seek political office again after the 2027 general election.

Obi made this statement in his response to journalists at a recent public event. When asked if he was going to contest for president again, he simply said, “I may not. I want to focus on developing the country, not just contesting.”

He explained that politics is not about holding offices but bringing real changes in the lives of individuals. Obi also added that even if he is not in office, he would remain engaged in promoting good governance, youth development, and economic reforms.

Obi, the third-placed winner in the 2023 election, announced he is still devoted to the Labour Party’s vision and remains a party supporter. Nevertheless, he informed us that his interest from now on is not so much being on the ballot again as building a very robust national progress movement.

He also addressed the issue of what is happening in Nigeria today, expressing frustration with rising poverty, joblessness, and cost of living. Obi urged the leaders to act fast, saying that Nigerians are suffering and need genuine solutions—not promises.

Obi’s fans have also continued calling him to re-contest, especially the young Nigerians who backed his 2023 bid. However, Obi stated that he will decide based on what Nigeria needs and not desires.

He ended by saying, “If it means not running again, I’m fine with that. I just want a better Nigeria.”
