Ilorin, Nigeria -June 30, 2025: A well-known female Islamic scholar from Ibadan, Alhaja Kafilat Kaola has been to be held in the Oke-Kura Correctional Center in Ilorin in connection with a defamation lawsuit initiated by a different Islamic religious cleric, Alhaji Taofeek Akeugbagold.

    Alleged Defamation

Kaola was in court in Kaola in the Ganmo Upper Area Court in Kwara State on charges of defamation. Kaola is accused of posting videos on social media sites in which she was said to have stated Akeugbagold to be the “diabolic cleric,” sparking anger among followers.

The accused denied the allegations and demanded Kaola be able to prove her assertions.

    Bail Application and Denial

In court Kaola’s attorney applied for bail in the belief that she is an eminent religious figure and would not leave. The plaintiff’s lawyer was against the application with a reference to a viral video which showed Kaola accused of slapping a judge as well as a lawyer. This was used as proof that she did not respect the judge.
