In a dramatic turn for Grammy-winning singer Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar Cephus, a Los Angeles jury has fully acquitted her of all allegations relating to an incident that took place in the year 2018 and caused a high-stakes civil suit. The case was brought up by a former security officer, Emani Ellis. Ellis alleged Cardi B of assaults, such as scratching her face and spilling spit on her, as well as making racist slurs during a dispute outside of a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office. Ellis requested the sum of $24 million as damages, asserting that the incident was a significant cause of damage.

The incident allegedly erupted out of a routine visit to the doctor of Cardi B. She became unhappy when she realized that she was recorded without her permission. According to testimony at trial, the conversation became heated verbally; however, Cardi B was adamant about denying the possibility of physical contact. She testified in the last week and explained that her reticence was due to privacy concerns at a private appointment. To back up her claims, the receptionist and a physician from the clinic both testified that they observed the exchange and did not witness any attack, which bolsters the defense’s argument that the allegations were not substantiated.

In a short deliberation lasting less than one hour, jurors reached a unanimous decision on September 2, 2025, dissolving Cardi B of any and all charges. As she left the courthouse, she addressed the media with an unwavering determination, saying, “Even if I’m on my deathbed, I will say it never happened. I will never admit to something I did not do.” This ruling not only eases an old legal burden but also reveals the difficulties public figures face when fighting against accusations of this kind and bringing closure to a case that has been lingering for years.
