In a major development pertaining to the legacy of late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad, an Ikorodu magistrate court has intervened to resolve lingering questions regarding the paternity of his youngest child, Liam Aloba. The court’s decision was made after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed a request to clarify the issue and cited its significance for the welfare of his child and its obligations. The court, headed by the magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, responded by granting an order for two DNA tests that compare the samples from the singer’s funeral with samples from Liam.
The proceedings were smooth, and Joseph’s legal team presented the case according to the established family court or magistrate courts within Lagos State. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, who was the widow of Mohbad and Liam’s mother, was identified as the defendant, and her counsel did not object in response to this request. The magistrate was in agreement with the taking of essential samples—like hair or tissue—from Mohbad’s body, which are now being kept in the Military Hospital in Yaba. These samples will help in the paternity confirmation process.
To ensure the accuracy and thoroughness of the test and to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the test, the court ordered that one test should be carried out at a reputable medical center in Nigeria and the other must be held at an accredited international hospital. Joseph is willing to pay the costs associated with the test, highlighting his determination to resolve the issue. In addition, the representatives of both parties are required to attend the collection of samples to ensure transparency and fairness during the process.
With this ruling the matter has been adjourned to November 11th, 2025. This will give ample time for tests to be scheduled and carried out. This is not just a way to give definitive answers to the family but also highlights the role of the legal system when it comes to handling personal issues in the wake of a celebrity’s sudden death.
