In an unprecedented e-commerce first in the world, the World Trade Organization launched a strong $50 million program to enable women entrepreneurs from developing nations. The fund, launched at an international trade forum, looks to tap into the vast potential of the digital economy by enabling women-owned enterprises with the support they need to export digitally.

The program is not only financial—it is also strategic. It offers two types of support: a smaller grant to early-stage firms to pilot digital opportunities, and a larger grant to already established firms ready to scale up into international markets. Both come with technical support, mentoring, and access to international business networks, creating a strong foundation for long-term growth.

Across Asia and into Africa, women entrepreneurs ready to go digital are faced with a pervasive obstacle: access to funds. This initiative aims to cut that roadblock short by allowing them to embrace e-commerce platforms, build online presence, and find buyers worldwide.

The fund is but one component of an even broader vision of inclusive economic integration, backed by contributions from cooperating countries. The international partnership expresses a shared belief that women-led enterprises are key drivers of fair growth.

A pilot phase has already been launched and is now inviting applications in certain of the targeted countries where local export organizations will facilitate women-owned enterprises being able to join up for the scheme. A combination of finance, technical support, and market connections, the program seeks to make women entrepreneurs long-term players in the digital trade ecosystem.

This program is not just money—it is a bridge to potential. Through opening up access and creating digital abilities, it stands to redefine the potential of women-owned businesses, empowering them to enter the global economy.
