On August 5, 2025, a routine boarding at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport boiled over when Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as KWAM 1, became involved in a heated altercation that resulted in flight disruptions.

It began when he was boarding a ValueJet flight to Lagos with a flask in his hand. Security staff, thinking it contained alcohol—a prohibited substance on domestic flights—requested that it be surrendered. It escalated further when KWAM 1 declined. Part of the contents of the flask leaked onto an aviation security officer, leading to a confrontation. While personnel were trying to diffuse the situation, he then blocked the plane as it attempted to taxi, leading to a sudden halt and sounding alarm over security.

As payback, two ValueJet pilots were grounded by airport authorities for departing without clearance—a breach of safety procedure. The artist was also placed on six-month no-fly list pending further investigation.

With growing pressure, the aviation regulator escalated the case by lodging a complaint with senior law enforcers. This led to the Inspector-General of Police ordering a full-scale inquiry. The Police Airport Command was ordered to probe the incident, paying particular attention to determining whether aviation laws were violated and to what extent is accountability demanded.

For KWAM 1, what began with a dispute over an unsubstantiated flask had already become a full-blown security and legal incident. The ensuing probe now stands as a milestone moment—pitting celebrity behavior against flight safety standards, confirming no one is beyond due process.
