An Nigerian woman named Fatima Abubakar described her experience of waiting for 24 years to have the birth of a child, before finally giving birth twins. Despite years of no children her husband stood with her, and even rebuffed her request to get a new wife.
Fatima of Kano State, said the long wait caused stress, pain and shame from family members and neighbours. She told of a time when she advised her husband to marry a different woman in order to have children. He refused and said he wanted only her.
In her own words “I have repeatedly begged him to get married to a second woman however he was always hesitant to say no. He said I was sufficient for him, and that only God has children.”
After many years of prayer as well as hospital trips, Fatima finally gave birth to twins – a girl and a boy at age 48. The birth occurred within the Gambo Sawaba General Hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State.
She said that the news of her pregnancy surprised many people. “Even I didn’t believe it. I kept asking for tests to ensure that it was true,” she said.
Fatima stated that the road was not an easy one. She was a victim of ridicule, insults and even rejection. A lot of people in her community were unable to believe in her and others advised that she should accept the fate of her life. “Some believed that they were cursed. Others claimed I did something wrong. However, I continued to pray,” she added.
She thanked her husband Abubakar for his kindness and patience. “He provided me with peace, even through the toughest times. He never made me feel angry or criticized me. He kept repeating God’s timing is the most perfect.'”
The story of their love has been viewed by millions, with people applauding the couple for their unwavering bond and their patience. Twins who were born well, have been doing great and their family is filled with happiness.
Fatima has advised women who are facing similar difficulties to not abandon the possibility of a bright future. “Don’t take in what others are saying. Be persistent in praying and trust God. If it happens to me, even after 24, it could occur to any person,” she said.
The husband also spoke briefly, stating that the he didn’t believe in placing pressure upon his wife. “We both wanted kids however I was aware that it was not her blame. I just kept hoping.”
Their story has been an encouragement to families waiting to have children. Family, friends even strangers have stopped by to celebrate their wedding with the couple.
The birth of this miracle baby has not only transformed their lives, but it also brought joy to the hearts of many who have followed their journey.
