Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has reversed his earlier claim that Nigeria is safer today than it was ten years ago, issuing a public apology after facing heavy criticism online.

What Happened?

Seyi Law made the controversial statement during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, claiming that Nigeria’s security situation had improved over the last decade. The comment drew widespread backlash from Nigerians who argued that rising incidents of terror attacks, kidnappings, and general insecurity contradicted his claim.

Many critics accused the comedian of being insincere, suggesting that his strong support for President Bola Tinubu may have influenced his earlier remarks.

Why He Apologized

In a heartfelt apology video shared on Instagram, Seyi Law admitted that his statement was insensitive.

“My fellow Nigerians, I owe you this & more. I’m sincerely sorry for such an insensitive statement that I made on the Honest Bunch podcast. I’m not someone who would be too proud or very insensitive to apologize when he makes mistakes,” he said.

He acknowledged the suffering of those affected by insecurity, including victims of kidnappings and killings, stressing that his previous comment failed to reflect the realities Nigerians face daily.

How He Wants Change

Beyond his apology, Seyi Law urged President Tinubu to take the security of Nigerians more seriously. He emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns and protecting citizens from the growing threats across the country.

This incident has sparked wider discussions about the role of public figures in shaping opinions on national issues, particularly security, and highlights the sensitivity surrounding statements that affect public perception of government performance.
