The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, in Kogi State has come under public attention after the institution expelled four students and suspended another over different disciplinary offences involving alleged lesbianism, violence, and cyber misconduct.
The university said the punishments followed investigations carried out by its Students’ Disciplinary Committee, with the final decisions approved during the institution’s 30th Senate Meeting held on April 29, 2026.
The development has since triggered conversations online, especially after details of the offences and punishments became public.
Two Female Students Expelled Over Alleged Same-Sex Relationship
Among those expelled were two female 200-level students identified as Ezekiel Precious Omeneke from the Department of Economics and Aku Joy Chinyere from Accounting.
According to the university management, both students were found guilty of alleged lesbianism, an offence the institution considers a violation of its disciplinary and moral conduct policies.
Although the university did not release specific details of the investigation or evidence presented before the committee, the decision has already generated debate online, with some Nigerians questioning the severity of the punishment while others defended the institution’s right to enforce its internal rules.
In Nigeria, same-sex relationships remain highly controversial and legally sensitive due to existing laws criminalising same-sex unions and related activities.
Student Allegedly Involved in Stabbing Also Expelled
Another student affected by the disciplinary action was Musa Abdulhakeem Onimisi, a 200-level Petroleum and Gas Engineering student.
The university accused him of physically assaulting and stabbing another student during an altercation.
School authorities described the offence as a serious threat to campus safety, adding that violence among students would not be tolerated under any circumstance.
While details surrounding the alleged incident were not fully disclosed publicly, university officials stressed that maintaining peace and security within the institution remains a priority.
Cyber Misconduct Case Raises Privacy Concerns
The disciplinary committee also recommended the expulsion of Dominion Kolade A., a 200-level Physiotherapy student, over alleged cyber-related misconduct.
According to the institution, the student was accused of cloning and circulating photographs of two female students without their consent.
The case has raised concerns around digital privacy, cyberbullying, and misuse of technology among undergraduates, issues that many Nigerian universities have increasingly struggled with in recent years.
Another Student Suspended for Fighting
In a separate case, Agbakaru Kosikochukwu, a 200-level Radiography student, was rusticated for one academic session over involvement in fighting and physical assault.
Unlike expulsion, rustication means the student will remain temporarily suspended from academic activities before being allowed to return after serving the punishment period.
University Says Discipline Remains Priority
Reacting to the development, the university management said the disciplinary actions were necessary to protect the institution’s standards and learning environment.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdulrahman Salawu reportedly praised members of the disciplinary committee for conducting what he described as a fair and detailed investigation process.
According to the university, CUSTECH remains committed to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also disciplined and morally responsible.
The management also warned students against engaging in activities capable of destroying their academic future, reputation, and career prospects, stressing that school regulations would continue to be enforced strictly.
